Chief Winemaker Fiona Donald joined Seppeltsfield in 2009, bringing over 30 years of experience in the wine industry from working for brands such as Penfolds, Hardy’s Wines, Barossa Valley Estate, and Thomas Hardy and Sons (Tintara Winery).
Seppeltsfield’s winemaking philosophy reflects both our history and our future endeavors. Our ambition is to match our reputation for the fortified wine collection with our luxury still wine collection. Our luxury red wine collection is fermented in the 1888 historic Gravity Cellar, gently extracting color and tannin, resulting in a pure and fine translation of the vineyard.
Our unique house style is to make wines of style, depth, and elegance, with medium weight, aromatic expressions, and future aging potential. Our wine style is quite simple – we aim to produce wines that are made to age and to be enjoyed while they’re fresh and aromatic.
2021 GREAT TERRACED VINEYARD SINGLE VINEYARD BAROSSA GRENACHE
The 2021 Great Terraced Vineyard Single Vineyard Barossa Grenache is made in a contemporary, aromatic style, with bright fruits, savoury spices, medium weight and silky tannins.
The Great Terraced Vineyard, planted on the estate hillside, consists of bush vine Grenache growing in clay loam with outcrops of ironstone, quartz, and bluestone. Originally planted in 1855, the vineyard was replanted in contoured rows in 1958 to follow the natural shape of the land, using meticulously selected original cuttings to ensure the highest quality.
Traditionally, the Grenache from The Great Terraced Vineyard was used entirely for fortified wine production, but today it is made into contemporary still wine expressions. Spanning over 250 acres, the vineyard is hand-pruned and hand-picked.
The 2021 Great Terraced Vineyard Single Vineyard Barossa Grenache was fermented through the historic 1888 Gravity Cellar. Built into the hillside on a series of terraces, gravity guides the flow of fruit down through the winery to deliver gentle extraction of colour, flavour and tannin. Matured in seasoned French Oak Foudres and puncheons for up to 9 months.

2021 ‘THE WESTING’ SINGLE VINEYARD BAROSSA SHIRAZ
The Grounds Collection is inspired by a study conducted by Barossa Australia, bringing together winemakers, grape growers and climatic science experts, to evaluate and identify the variations of Barossa Shiraz across all four points of the compass. Further to this, our interpretation demonstrates unique terroir down to site, showcasing Single Vineyard expressions of Shiraz.
Our terminology – ‘Northing’, ‘Easting’, ‘Southing’, ‘Westing’, is inspired by mapmaking, referring to the deviation or distance in the respective direction.
The 2021 ‘The Westing’ Single Vineyard Barossa Shiraz is grown on the western ridge of the Barossa. This single vineyard site, known as ‘V Block,’ undulates over 125m above sea level on red-brown earths over alkaline subsoils.
The 2021 ‘The Westing Single Vineyard Barossa Shiraz was fermented through the historic 1888 Gravity Cellar. Built into the hillside on a series of terraces, gravity guides the flow of fruit down through the winery to deliver gentle extraction of colour, flavour, and tannin. Matured for 14 months in new and seasoned French oak hogsheads.

1924 ‘100 YEAR OLD’ PARA VINTAGE TAWNY
Our 100 Year Old Para Vintage Tawny was the inaugural wine to be inducted into James Halliday’s Hall Of Fame.
Seppeltsfield has long been internationally renowned for its treasure trove of fortifieds highlighted by the Centennial Collection – the world’s only unbroken lineage of single vintage Tawny dating back to 1878, spanning 147 consecutive vintages. The Centennial Cellar was built in 1878 by Oscar ‘Benno’ Seppelt. In a gesture both unique and inspirational, Benno selected a puncheon of his finest wine and gave instructions that it was not to be bottled for 100 years. The Centennial Cellar is a living museum of Australian winemaking history and undoubtedly is the ‘jewel in the crown’ of the Seppeltsfield Estate. The 1924 100 Year Old Para Vintage Tawny is the 147th consecutive release from the Centennial Cellar.
The very finest parcels of Grenache and Shiraz are selected each year from the Seppeltsfield estate vineyards and reserved for the making of the 100 Year Old Para Vintage Tawny. The single vintage tawny is fortified with Brandy spirit and aged in old oak barrels in the renowned Centennial Cellar, then this is progressively transferred into smaller barrels as it continues to evaporate and build in concentration. An estimated 3% is lost each year to the ‘angel’s share’, with the wine continually concentrating in-flavour, aroma and viscosity during its maturation in barrel.
